- The Celpe-Bras exam is not required to take classes at SLI.
Set by Brazil’s Ministry of Education, the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners (CELPE-Bras) examination is the only one of its kind which is officially recognized by the Brazilian Government. The CELPE-Bras may also be required by certain institutions in the Brazilian professional and academic sectors.
Foreign students must provide proof of Portuguese language proficiency in order to study either undergraduate or postgraduate courses at Brazilian universities. Foreign professionals may also be required to provide proof of language proficiency if they wish to work in Brazil or to register with professional bodies such as the Brazilian Federal Council of Medicine. The certificate can also be used on your resume for professional reasons.
There are four levels of certification: intermediate, higher intermediate, advanced and higher advanced. The exam consists of listening, reading, oral and written activities.
The exam is offered by Florida International University twice a year. Check here the information to register for the next session.
